Elk jaar herdenken we in mei de Nakba, ofwel de catastrofe: de etnische zuivering van Palestina. In 1948 werden door zionistische milities meer dan 700.000 Palestijnen van hun land verdreven. Deze herdenking is altijd belangrijk, maar heeft het vandaag een specifieke urgentie. De wreedheid van de genocide die Israël in Gaza uitvoert, is geen plotselinge ontwikkeling. Het is de voortzetting van een eeuw van koloniaal geweld. De Nakba is voortdurend. Every year the month of May marks the anniversary of the Nakba, the catastrophe: the ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1948, at the hands of zionist militias. This commemoration is always important, but it has a specific urgency today. The brutality of the genocide carried out by Israel in Gaza is not a sudden, exceptional development. It is the continuation of a century of colonial violence. The Nakba is ongoing. Only an end to settler colonial rule, military occupation, apartheid laws, and the forcible exclusion of Palestinian refugees can bring it to an end.

On Nakba Day, we call on Dutch institutions, companies, and the government to:

• Mobilize all diplomatic, economic, and political pressure available to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and the emergency transfer of necessary food, medical supplies, and construction material to address the devastation caused by Israel's genocidal assault.

• Permanently stop arming Israel.

• Break all ties with institutions and companies complicit in the continued oppression of the Palestinian people.

• Impose comprehensive sanctions on Israel until such a time as the illegal occupation is ended, the blockade on Gaza is lifted, the more than 65 laws targeting Palestinians specifically are repealed, and Palestinian refugees are granted their right to return.nstration the Netherlands has ever seen.

To remember the Nakba and restate our commitment to Palestinian Liberation, we call on all those who share our demands to join us in Amsterdam, on 11 May.
